Ahead with Confidence: Flourishing Programs

A true point of pride for the Morristown- Beard community, the fine and performing arts provide many opportunities for students to showcase their talents. An essential component of the MBS curriculum, the arts develop students' verbal and nonverbal communication skills while promoting self-awareness and confidence. Our performances and art exhibits are widely recognized for their sophistication and excellence.

  • Create a new quad that provides a central location to emphasize the importance of the arts
  • Flexible auditorium design allows for enough seats to accommodate all-school assemblies as well as smaller, intimate performances
  • Stage allows more sophisticated set design and technical instruction
  • Provides appropriate space for each performing arts discipline
  • Ability to host lectures and performances from outside groups
  • Aids enrollment by attracting students

Over the years, our performing arts programs have grown in popularity and quality. Our dance program, non...existent just over a decade ago, now has over 80 students. The vocal and instrumental music programs have expanded, and our theater program continues to cultivate students' talent on stage and behind the scenes. Unfortunately, all of our groups and ensembles must share the same space-Wilkie Hall. The time has come to provide proper accommodation for programs that involve 80 percent of our students.

A new theater will bring to the arts the same credibility that our new athletic facilities have provided for our sports programs. The new Performing Arts Center will help us attract new students and teachers and allow us to house larger audiences at our performances. For the first time, we will have a full-size choral room, a properly equipped dance studio, and a large band room with ample instrument storage space. We will have separate dressing rooms, a prop construction shop, costume storage, a green room, and a box office.

Perhaps most importantly, the new Performing Arts Center will provide something we have long needed at Morristown-Beard: an attractive, comfortable, and flexible space for coming together as a community for all-school gatherings, morning meetings, and award assemblies.

With generous support from those who believe in moving Morristown-Beard School Ahead with Confidence, we will build a Performing Arts Center that clearly demonstrates how greatly we value our students and our community.
