05-30-2008 Artist Lori Field Works with MBS Students
On May 30, artist Lori Field visited Morristown-Beard School and spent the day in Wilkie Hall, demonstrating her encaustic painting technique, showing slides of her work, and assisting art students in this interesting technique.
05-30-2008 Boys' Lacrosse Captures First State Championship
The Morristown-Beard boys' lacrosse program made history on May 29 as the Crimson captured its first state championship with an 11-8 win over Immaculata.

Graduates from the Beard School, the Morristown School, and Morristown-Beard School gathered on campus on May 16 and 17 to reunite with old friends and enjoy a full slate of activities as part of Reunion 2008.

Morristown-Beard School freshman Neale Gadde got a chance to call the shots as Headmaster for a day on May 23. Neale won this honor at last fall’s Crimson Night fundraising auction, hosted by the Morristown-Beard School Parents’ Association.

Morristown-Beard students are getting a unique opportunity to participate in authentic Mars research. Students from Paul Fisher’s spring Astrobiology class will soon be analyzing an image of the Martian surface taken expressly for them by the Mars Odyssey spacecraft.

05-15-2008 Students Honored for Service Work
The spirit of volunteerism has become synonymous with Morristown-Beard School and its mission. To assist students on their journey towards becoming productive and responsible citizens, the school requires community service of all students in grades 9-12. As a result of their volunteer efforts, students are doing more than gaining personal satisfaction and self-confidence; they are enriching their communities and transforming the lives of those around them.
05-14-2008 French & Spanish Honor Societies Induct Members
Sixteen Morristown-Beard students were inducted into the French and Spanish Honor Societies at a special ceremony at the Alumni House on May 14. To be eligible for induction, students must earn at least an A- average for the past three semesters of study in the language and achieve honor roll status during those same semesters. Candidates must be enrolled at least at the sophomore level.

As end-of-the-semester traditions go, it doesn’t get much sweeter than this! Once again, Middle School teacher Soni Dougherty’s French students traveled to the South Street Creamery in Morristown, where they got a true taste of French culture and cuisine.

As part of Holocaust Remembrance Day on May 2nd, Holocaust survivor Olga Menczer visited Morristown-Beard School to share her emotional story with students and faculty. The visit was coordinated through Morristown-Beard sophomore Breena Beck and her family.

05-01-2008 Students Help Senior Citizens Get a "Wii" Bit of Exercise
Game time at the Family Service of Morris County (FSMC) Time Out Adult Care Center in Madison has taken a giant leap past doing puzzles and playing bridge. Students from the Morristown-Beard School Family Service Club recently donated a Nintendo Wii game system to the senior center, and based on the enthusiastic response, it’s clear that video games aren’t just kid stuff anymore.
05-01-2008 Cannon Named Head of Middle School for the Day
Morristown-Beard seventh grader Thomas “T.J.” Cannon got a chance to call the shots as Head of the Middle School for a day on May 1st. T.J. won this honor at last fall’s Crimson Night fundraising auction, hosted by the Crimson Club at Morristown-Beard School.

04-30-2008 Leahy Selected to Play in U.S. Lacrosse Tournament
Congratulations to Morristown-Beard junior Emily Leahy, who was selected to participate in the Schoolgirls Tournament sponsored by United States Lacrosse. Emily was one of 25 elite athletes selected from a pool of 120 to participate in the event, which is part of the Women’s Division National Tournament held on May 24-25 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Forty four members of the Morristown-Beard community recently participated in the Lu Huggins Wheelchair Walk to benefit the Matheny Medical and Educational Center in Peapack-Gladstone.
04-28-2008 Class of 2012 Hosts Successful Diaper Drive
This winter, Morristown-Beard’s eighth grade students, in partnership with Team Academy Charter School in Newark, hosted the “Bridge to 2012 - Baby Diaper Drive” to benefit families serviced by Apostle’s House in Newark. Apostle’s House is a not for profit organization that provides comprehensive social services for families with children who are displaced from their homes. The organization helps these families build self-sufficient lives.

Morristown-Beard School is going global from April 14 to 18 as the World Languages Department holds its annual International Week – a celebration of the rich and diverse cultures of the world. The weeklong celebration includes musical performances, workshops, speakers, a luncheon, games and competitions.

Congratulations to Morristown-Beard sophomores Breena Beck and Carly Seyler on their successful auditions for the New Jersey All-State Chorus. Both girls were accepted into the Women's Chorus, and will perform at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark in February of 2009 during the New Jersey Music Educators’ Conference.

04-10-2008 Baum Family Runs Half-Marathon for Charity
Running a half-marathon for charity became a true family affair for the Baums recently. On March 30, Morristown-Beard freshman Austin Baum, sixth grader Zachary Baum, and their parents, Jeanine and Jonathan Baum, ran in the ING Georgia Half-Marathon in Atlanta to raise money for The Fisher House program, a unique private-public partnership that supports America’s military in their time of need.

Morristown-Beard parents and teen drivers are encouraged to attend an important program entitled “Teen Driver: A Family Guide to Teen Driving” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15 in the Kirby Chapel, Beard Hall.
04-08-2008 French Students View Courbet Exhibit at the Met
On April 2nd and 3rd, Morristown-Beard’s French students visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art to view a special exhibition on artist Gustave Courbet. Nearly 100 MBS students were able to participate in the field trip sponsored by the World Languages Department.

Morristown-Beard senior Jerome Brown recently signed a Letter of Intent to attend LaSalle University on a track & field scholarship in the fall.

Seven Morristown-Beard School students were inducted into The Cum Laude Society on March 31. The students are: junior Cassandra Farnow, junior Madeleine Joelson, senior Elizabeth Kean, junior Nicholas Olin, senior Vincent Rolin, senior Ava Scheininger, and senior Melodie Young.

Morristown-Beard’s sixth and seventh grade classes got a behind-the-scenes tour of Yankee Stadium on March 6th, just before the historic “House That Ruth Built” enters its final season.

02-28-2008 MBS Holds Most Successful Blood Drive
Morristown-Beard School’s 19th annual blood drive was its most successful drive ever thanks to the hard work and generosity of faculty and staff, alumni, students, school parents, and area residents. The drive was held on February 27, and was conducted by New Jersey Blood Services.

Morristown-Beard senior Jared Radin was recently selected to have one of his original photographs included in the 2007 High School Photography Contest at Drexel University.
02-21-2008 Girls' Ice Hockey Wins WIHLMA Championship
The Morristown-Beard girls' varsity ice hockey team captured the Women's Interscholastic Hockey League Mid-Atlantic (WIHLMA) championship in Pittsburgh on February 17 after defeating Portledge (NY), 2-1. This is the second year in a row the Crimson have taken the title.
02-21-2008 Blood Drive on Campus February 27
Morristown-Beard School is hosting its 19th Annual Blood Drive on Wednesday, February 27 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Main Gymnasium on campus. Members of the community are encouraged to participate. Anyone 17 years of age or older is eligible to donate blood.

An exciting program of Winter Workshops on campus on February 21 and 22 will break the doldrums of winter. This year, the workshops and sessions celebrate two prominent themes that make MBS a unique and special place- diversity and the arts. The days will feature a variety of venues and formats that highlight learning in non-traditional settings, individual and group talents, tolerance, and thinking globally.
02-15-2008 Larmond, Jr. Reaches 1,000 Point Milestone
Scoring 1,000 points in a high school basketball career is quite an achievement, and at Morristown-Beard School two players have reached the milestone in consecutive seasons. Last year, guard Rey Jefferson scored his 1,000th point, and this year senior forward Colin Larmond, Jr. joined the elite club.

The Morristown-Beard boys’ varsity hockey team skated away with its third prep title in four years following a convincing 4-0 victory over Princeton Day School at Mennen Arena on February 13.

Morristown-Beard School’s Upper and Middle School literary magazines, Mariah and Melange, were both recently honored by the National Council of Teachers in English (NCTE).

Morristown-Beard’s sixth grade class didn’t have to travel far to get a first-hand look at the Revolutionary War. On February 11, 12 and 13 the sixth graders visited the Ford Mansion in Morristown, which served as George Washington’s headquarters from 1779-80.

Morristown-Beard faculty members Patrick Horan and Susie Speidel were both selected to participate in a symposium celebrating the 50-year musical theatre career of composer Stephen Sondheim. The event will be held at William Paterson University on February 14 and 15.
02-11-2008 Petersen Takes Morris County Swim Crown
Swimmer Sam Petersen became the first Morristown-Beard boy to win an event at the Morris County Championships in six years when he captured first place in the 400-meter freestyle earlier this month.

The engaging, tap-dancing musical “Dames at Sea” sets sail at Morristown-Beard School from February 28 – March 1 with a humorous look at the great movie musicals of the 1930s and '40s.
01-30-2008 Morristown-Beard Salutes MCJ Foundation
Morristown-Beard School congratulates the MCJ/Amelior Foundation of Morristown, which was recently named the recipient of the John R. Chandler Award by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) at its annual conference. The foundation was nominated for the honor by Morristown-Beard School, one of many schools in New Jersey that the foundation has supported during its 25-year history.

Morristown-Beard School is pleased to announce that six of its seniors have been named Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholars in recognition of their high academic achievement. Sophomores Rebecca Lerner and Kathryn Allison and Junior Alexandra Scott represented Morristown-Beard School at the annual competition of the Speech Theatre Association of New Jersey (STANJ) which was held on Saturday, January 25th at the Mason Gross School of the Arts on the campus of Rutgers University.
01-28-2008 History Exhibit on Reform Opens in Library
The History Department is pleased to host the national touring exhibition entitled, "The Age of Progressive Reform: Creating Modern America, 1900-1917." The exhibit is open through Friday, February 8th in the Anderson Library.
01-24-2008 History Teacher Featured in DVD about Slavery
Several years ago, Morristown-Beard history teacher Dr. Alan Cooper participated in a documentary on slavery and the Underground Railroad. Filmed by Lawrence Walker of Bulls Eye Productions, the documentary remains in production, but much of the information collected has been compiled in a DVD, "Journey to Freedom: African-Americans in New Jersey (1638 - 1932)."
