Crimson Win Mennen Cup, Advance in States
The Morristown-Beard boys' ice hockey team captured its second consecutive Mennen Cup title with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over Morris Knolls on February 28th.
Following a face-off win and a pass from Anthony Curto '10, senior Dan DePoalo '10 ripped a wrist shot past the goalie's glove hand to give MBS the overtime win.


Dan's younger brother, Tom DePoalo '12 scored the first goal of the game for the Crimson, just 45 seconds into the contest. Morris Knolls tied the game at the end of the first period, but MBS jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the second period thanks to a turnover which Andrew Pascal '10 converted into a quick score.

The Golden Eagles managed to knot the game at 2-2 with only 13 seconds left in regulation, but the Crimson controlled the play in overtime and scored after going on the power play. Goalie Alex Durso '11 stopped 23 of 25 shots in the game.

Morristown-Beard advanced to the Mennen Cup finals after knocking off Chatham, 6-2, on February 27th. The Crimson erupted for four goals in the first period from Andrew Pascal '10, Eddie Osowski '11, Anthony Curto '10, and Matt Santucci '11. Dan DePoalo '10 and Donnie Shauger '12 also scored for Morristown-Beard.

On March 3rd, the Crimson won their First Round game of the State Tournament as they edged Monsignor Donovan, 3-2, at Mennen Arena. Andrew Koslov '10, Anthony Curto '10, and Jonny Donofrio '10 all netted goals for MBS, while Alex Durso '11 had 26 saves in the game for the victory. In the Second Round of the State Tournament, the Crimson jumped out to an early 3-0 lead to advance over Seton Hall Prep, 4-1, at Mennen Arena on March 6th. Dan DePoalo '10 had a hat trick and his brother Tom DePoalo'12 also netted a goal.

The team's record now stands at 18-5-2. Morristown-Beard advances to the semi-finals of the State Tournament on March 9th and will face Delbarton at 6 p.m. at Mennen Arena.
